Please excuse our delay in communicating to you the progress we have made together as a community with Project Chizuk. Project Chizuk has begun to accomplish what it set out to achieve. Project Chizuk has played roles of varying sizes in helping several members of the community secure new employment. Many interviews have been facilitated, much networking has occurred, resumes have been improved, assistance has been provided in negotiating compensation packages (in one instance resulting in a salary 18% greater than the original offer), and significant financial benefits have been realized. We hope to begin running additional programs and events shortly. Most gratifying, this week saw the first job placement that was handled through Project Chizuk from end to end. It was an excellent example of the Project Chizuk "model" working as we hoped, and we hope this is the beginning of many similar success stories. It unfolded, in a nutshell, as follows: The job opening was forwarded to Project Chizuk by a member of the community. The Project Chizuk database of applicants was reviewed to identify appropriate candidates. The candidate's resume was reviewed and revised by a member of the resume review committee. Abbie Cohen, the Project Chizuk Placement Coordinator, advocated tirelessly on behalf of the candidate and the offer of employment was made and accepted. An amazing, collaborative effort! Naturally, the candidate is extraordinarily grateful and eager to succeed in his new position. We hope he has great hatzlacha! We want to thank our partner, Jewish Family Service of Passaic/Clifton, who has been of enormous assistance throughout. The following summary sets forth some of the organizational progress that Project Chizuk has made to date: * The Project Chizuk website (www.projectchizuk.com ) is up and running and has links to many jobs. We are hoping to add a lot of helpful content to the website. Project Chizuk is looking for skilled volunteers who may be able to assist it with web design and web programming as part of this effort. If you have the time and skills, please email benhalberstam at yahoo.com. If you know of any job openings, please forward them to jobs at projectchizuk.com. * In partnership with Jewish Family Service of Passaic-Clifton, Project Chizuk has launched a Benefits Program which helps individuals and families identify the benefits they may be eligible to receive. Many people have already received significant benefits. Please note - all information goes only to the JFS staff and is held in the strictest confidence, so please contact them. You may be eligible for a variety of programs, with varying eligibility requirements. For information, please email resources at projectchizuk.com, or call 973-487-7755. * On March 15th, Rabbi Frand spoke on behalf of JFS and Project Chizuk to hundreds of members of our community. Rabbi Frand stressed the need to see the message from Hashem in the global financial downturn, and to respond accordingly by giving aid and hope to those in need. Rabbi Frand closed by encouraging everyone in the community to play a part in providing hope to those who are out of work. CDs can be ordered by calling JFS at 973-777-7638. * Project Chizuk has launched "The Project Chizuk Partnership Program" which is an effort to foster partnerships between job seekers and professionals in our community. This will help harness the untapped collective power of the large set of professionals who would like to lend their support to our job seekers. Project Chizuk has an incredible group of HR professionals who are spearheading this effort and are looking for qualified individuals willing to serve as "Coaches". If you would like to participate in the program as a "Candidate", please email Abbie Cohen at Abbie at projectchizuk.com. If you want to participate as a "Coach", please email MGoldberg at yorkcapital.com. * Project Chizuk has recently formed a "Resume Review and Mock Interview Committee" led by experienced HR professionals. If you wish to have your resume reviewed, or practice your interview skills, please contact Abbie Cohen. If you believe you have the experience and time to assist in the Committee's efforts, please contact Steve Davis at smdavis1 at gmail.com. * We are in the final process of forming a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our thanks to the individuals in town who have volunteered their professional services (Legal and Accounting) to move this forward. We hope this will enable us to pursue certain grant opportunities (governmental and foundations). If you think you may be able to assist in this effort, please contact B.Z. Halberstam at bz at rudnikcapital.com. Project Chizuk owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to the many able volunteers who have dedicated significant time to make all of the above happen. It truly could not have happened without their efforts. We want to apologize to the many people who have signed up as volunteers to whom we have not yet been able to reach out. It has taken a significant effort to put some of the infrastructure in place to use volunteers effectively. As we continue to get rolling we will need plenty of help. If you may be able to assist us - please sign up as a volunteer at www.projectchizuk.com . We encourage you to help in this effort by making a generous contribution to Project Chizuk. We have assumed significant financial obligations to put this structure into place and will need to rely on the generosity of the community to ensure it can be sustained. Checks can be made payable to Project Chizuk and sent c/o Yehudah Muehlgay, 40 Woodward Avenue, Clifton, NJ 07012. Finally - please get involved - in any way you can. Sign up on the website, post jobs that may be relevant, and simply be aware of individuals who may need assistance in their search. I am resending as text (and transliterated the Hebrew Text). Amitai Dear Friends, You recently received an email from Project Chizuk, explaining the various programs that have been developed to help those seeking employment, and outlining the accomplishments and successes that have be achieved thus far. While the presentation is impressive, it is only half of the picture. The other half is a view that you might not be privy to, and at the risk of revealing a secret, I find it important to describe it to you. Project Chizuk was the brainchild and initiative of a group of individuals just like you and me. While talented and skilled, their accomplishments are primarily due to an uncommon sense of Achriaus for the Tzibur and an uncomplicated and inspiring sense of Ahavas Yisroel . Motivated by concern for those who have lost their source of livelihood, they have dedicated themselves with a passion and zeal to do everything possible to help our neighbors and friends. They have carved out considerable time from full schedules to strategize, plan, and implement the various components of Project Chizuk. To a large degree, their lives now revolve around this all-encompassing commitment. No greater praise could be given than the brief description of the email and telephone communications between the board members this past Erev Shabbos. Upon learning of the individual, described in their email, who attained employment through the resources of Project Chizuk, a sense of excitement, bordering on euphoria, took over. They exchanged Mazal Tov's and Thank You's and Yasher Koach's; one had a sense that they all experienced this as a personal Simcha. Project Chizuk had, with effort and perseverance, facilitated the employment of another Jew! The professional JFS staff, similarly driven by Ahavas Yisroel, were full participants in this "family" Simcha. In conversations, the sense of joy was palpable. Not surprisingly, they then refocused on their greatest priority: What else can be done to help members of the community? If their structure and resources achieved this goal, why can't it be duplicated, over and over? If this model is effective, by utilizing and leveraging the talents and contacts within our community, why shouldn't they be able to improve further, to provide even more opportunities and more effective assistance to those seeking employment? Meforshim tell us that the word Nisayon, test, is derived from the word Nes, uplifted, because a trial can uplift the individual or community undergoing the trial. From the time of the Avos, during the Shibud of Mitzrayim, and throughout Jewish history, hardships and difficulties have brought forth the special and unique qualities of Klal Yisroel. Project Chizuk is such an example, and it is an uplifting model of Ahavas Chesed and the Ahavas Chuinam which is so lacking today. B"H they are not alone. Other Chessed organizations, such as Hand in Hand, Somaich Achim, and the Ahavas Chesed Maos Chitim Fund, are comprised of those who feel the pain of other Jews and utilize every available resource to extend help with care and sensitivity. They, too, engage in Chessed out of the public spotlight, with a sense of Hetzana Leket. In the Zechus of those involved in this Avodat Hakodesh, may we be Zoche to B'Nisan N'galo U'VNisan Aridin L'yigal! The Rambam writes dramatically that one is obligated to provide for those in need on every Yom Tov , and if one does not do so, one has not fulfilled even one's personal Mitzva of Simchas Yom Tov. This is all the more important on Pesach, when we must ensure that each Jew can feel the freedom which accompanies the reenactment of Yetzias Mitzrayim the night of Pesach. I will briefly mention three options for Ma'os Chitim: 1) The Ahavas Chesed Ma'os Chitim Fund is an inspiring organization which devotes itself specifically to providing for Pesach needs. Those who wish to contribute can do so in the following ways: a) Online - www.foodforpesach.org b) Check - made out to "Ahavas Chesed", and sent to Ahavas Chesed, c/o Gamliel Danziger, 203 Passaic Avenue, Passaic, NJ 07055 c) Pledges can be made by sending an email to maos.chitim at gmail.com. 2) Of course, Hand in Hand/Tomchei Shabbos is an indispensable organization which provides for those who are in need throughout the year. Their assistance is all the more valuable in preparation for Pesach. One may also fulfill one's obligation by sending Ma'os Chitim to them. 3) If you wish, you can make out a check to the Tifereth Israel Rabbi's Fund, marking "Ma'os Chitim" in the memo. May all of us, and all of Klal Yisrael, enjoy a Yom Tov filled with Simcha. Bivracha, Rabbi Cohen ____________________________________________________________ Get your dream car or truck.
