Today is Sunday the 9th of Iyar 5769 and May 3, 2009 The Vort I Wish I Did Not Have to Write My hand is trembling and my heart is hurting. Oh how I wish I did not have to write these words; however, they must be written, they must be said. This past Friday night, as all of us were enjoying our Shabbos meals with our families, one of our family members was crying. One of our family members was uprooted from their home; their future became uncertain; their life turned upside down again. Hadassah Siegfried and her 9 year old daughter Elisheva Yocheved moved into our neighborhood about two years ago. As Hadassah and her daughter were in the Shul this past Friday night, they were informed that their apartment was going up in flames. In a moment the family has been left homeless and possibly destitute. Hadassah and Elisheva are no strangers to tragedy. Hadassah's husband (Elisheva's father) tragically passed away a number of years ago after a lengthy illness. The family was hoping for a new start here in Passaic; and now this. Thank Hashem, we have found them a temporary home and meals are being taken of. However, the financial burden of the family is enormous. Many of their basic household possessions were destroyed in the fire. We cannot even begin to calculate their loss. Who can I turn to you for help if not you? I know you are in hard times yourself. However, you have a roof over your head. You have clothes in your drawers to change into. You have food in your refrigerator to eat. I need you to help me help Hadassah and Elisheva. I need you send me a check and I need you to forward this email to anyone else who can help. We cannot allow this almanoh (widow) and yesoma (orphan) to cry. Please, please, make out your checks to: Rabbi's Tzedokah Fund of Congregation Ahavas Israel. Please mark the check: Siegfried Fire Fund. Send your check to Rabbi Eisenman c/o Congregation Ahavas Israel 181 Van Houten Avenue Passaic, NJ 07055 In the merit of our helping Hadassah and Elisheva may Hashem always allow all of us to be from the givers and never to counted among the takers. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... (Thankfully, some children finish treatment and no longer need us.) * 10 ill children enjoyed two weeks in Camp Simcha or Camp Simcha Special, oases of hope, love and laughter. The cost of this incredible vacation from pain and illness is $10,000 per child, but like all Chai Lifeline services, it is free of charge to families. * Close to 500 delicious meals have been distributed to local families in area hospitals. * 211 requests for transportation assistance have been fulfilled. * Over 280 hours of respite have been provided * Additionally, families have availed themselves of Chai Lifeline's other services, including Big Brothers and Sisters, ChaiLine teleconference support groups, insurance support, counseling, financial assistance, Yom Tov Chagigos gifts, and Chanukah and Purim parties. Bereaved families received crisis counseling and participated in our Healing Hearts bereavement retreat. I would like to personally invite you to Chai Lifeline's inaugural breakfast reception in Passaic, Sunday, May 17th, beginning at 10:00 am in Zichron Moshe, Rabbi Davis's shul. The breakfast reception is open for both men and women. Chai Lifeline is committed to continuing to meet the needs of Passaic's ill children and their families despite the financial crisis. To do that, they need our support. I hope you will attend the reception to learn more about all that Chai Lifeline does for our most vulnerable children, and that you will contribute generously to the breakfast campaign. All funds raised will be used locally. Donations can be made online at www.chailifeline.org/donate.php. Please include "Passaic breakfast" in the "additional comments" section on the bottom of the form. Thanks in advance. I look forward to greeting you at the breakfast.
