Firstly, <STRONG><B><FONT face="Times New Roman">one should keep small children away from the burning candles, and make sure that they do not light matches or candles on their own.</FONT></B></STRONG></SPAN></FONT><BR>
<FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt"><STRONG></STRONG></SPAN></FONT> <BR>

<P class=ecxMsoNormal><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt">Secondly, <STRONG><B><FONT face="Times New Roman">one should not leave one’s home while the Chanuka candles are burning</FONT></B></STRONG>. Every Chanuka, there have been tragic incidents in the Jewish community which have been caused by Chanuka candles, and Chazal warn that “Chamira Sakanta Mei’Issura” – danger is to be treated more stringently than Halachic prohibitions.</SPAN></FONT></P>
<P class=ecxMsoNormal><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt"></SPAN></FONT> </P>
<P class=ecxMsoNormal><FONT face="Times New Roman" size=3><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 12pt">If everyone must leave the home, the Chanuka candles can be lit either early in the evening (they must burn for a minimum of a half-hour, and should burn until at least 5:10pm), or upon return to the home later in the evening (allowing the candles to burn for at least a half-hour). After they have burned for the necessary period of time, the candles can be extinguished.</SPAN></FONT></P>
